Potatoes - Home Guard
A popular early, dating from 1942 (WW2; members of the Home Guard helped promote it). White skins, white flesh, very pretty purple flowers, yield about 1.25lbs in a 2 gallon pot, 2.5 lbs in a 3 gallon pot; unusually for an early it is floury rather than waxy. Best eaten when freshly dug.
Dry matter 6; better flavour than most other earlies (with the possible exception of Red Duke of York). Susceptible to blight -
around 3-4. Haulms short to medium; good for growing in pots.
